Red Wine Carpet Stain Removal: Grab some paper towels or absorbent cloths and blot up as much of the liquid as you can. Apply pressure to ensure you reach the liquid trapped deep down in the carpet fibers. Dampen a clean white cloth with plain water and quickly sponge the stain. Blot up as much as the liquid as you can with dry towels. Place a clean dry towel over the stain and place a chair over the towel to keep your guests from walking on it. Mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 2 cups of warm water and apply to the stain a little at a time, blot with a clean cloth as the stain dissolves. When the stain is completely gone, blot with clean cloths until dry.
Removing Coffee Stains from Upholstery: Your coffee may be the best in the world, but when it spills on your sofa it’s the worst! Dap a small amount of water on the stain and leave it alone. If your fabric can be safely cleaned with water, sponge the stain with a clean cloth dipped in a mixture of 1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid combined with 2 cups of cool water. Blot dry with a clean cloth and repeat until the stain is gone.
Sweet Potato or Pumpkin Pie Carpet Stain Removal: While serving dessert in the living room seemed like a great idea at the time, it’s not fun when a piece of pie drops off of the plate onto the carpet. The first step is to pick up the pieces and remove as much of the pie as you can from the carpet fibers with a damp cloth. The following day, sponge the stain with a clean cloth that has been placed in a solution of 1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid and 2 cups of warm water. Rinse and blot dry. For tough stains, mix 1 tablespoon ammonia with 2 cups warm water. Sponge and blot the stain unit it is gone, rinse again and blot dry.
Cranberry Sauce Stain Removal: When cranberry sauce lands on your tablecloth, just scrape up the excess and sponge with a small amount of cool water. When your guests leave, mix 1 tablespoon white vinegar with 1/2 teaspoon liquid laundry detergent into 1 quart of cool water. Soak the stain for about 15 minutes, if the stain remains, rinse and sponge with rubbing alcohol. Launder as usual.
Butter Stain Removal: When butter drips onto your tablecloth, reach for the salt. Salt can help absorb the grease especially on fresh stains to keep it from soaking further into the fabric. The following day, pretreat the stain with laundry spot remover and wash in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric.
